What does a typical appointment look like?

When you first arrive at our office, we will have you fill out some paperwork telling us a bit more about you. Then you will leave a sample for an hCG urine test. While our nursing staff runs the test, a Client Advocate will meet with you to review your initial paperwork and ask more questions about your unique situation. All our intake questions are designed to help us know you better and to decide which of our services would best help you. These questions cover things from pregnancy, your support system, material needs, and what your options are, were your test to be positive. The information you choose to share will always be confidential.

Our nurse will then show you the results of your test and go over a brief health history with you to determine if you are eligible for a limited first-trimester ultrasound. There will be no ultrasound performed if your test is negative. The nurse will also determine if that day is the best possible time to do your first scan based on your health history and the dates of your last menstrual period. If the timing is appropriate, the nurse will scan you the same day. If it is best to scan later, she will schedule you for a later date before you leave our office.

After the scan, you will meet back with your Client Advocate to discuss your ultrasound and what you are thinking and feeling about your options with a confirmed pregnancy. We are here to walk with you through the choices of parenting, placing a child for adoption, or what an abortion procedure would look like. We do not perform or refer for abortions in our office, but we can go over the information so that you can make an informed decision.

As your appointment is wrapped up, we will discuss resources available to you through PSS no matter what your choice is and schedule any appropriate appointment moving forward.
